Department of Food Engineering is an industrial research promoting Department at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, offering Post Graduation course M. Tech. Food Technology with specialization in Nutrigenomics. This course emphasizes various aspects of nutrigenomics, nutraceutical, functional food product development and human nutrition. Department aims at attracting and training students in all aspects of research and development in functional food and nutraceutical area. Amalgamating conventional Biological Sciences with modern genomic and proteomic technologies, along with engineering aspects of the processing are emphasized during the study.
Department has experienced faculty with vast academic experience. Teaching methodology includes Lectures, Tutorials, Journal Clubs, Seminars, Practical laboratory work and much more. Interactive experiential form of teaching is provided in order to enable the students to apply their knowledge learnt in the classroom into their practical life and jobs. Department regularly organizes guest lectures by experts from industry, academic & research institutions.
The laboratory of dept. of Food Engineering is well equipped with instruments such as UV-spectrophotometer, Rotary Evaporator, Vacuum Oven, Muffle Furnace etc. for undertaking the research projects. To keep pace with latest developments in the area, collaboration projects with other research institutes are undertaken. Department encourages students to participate in subject conferences and other scientific gatherings.
